A new group called Coalition for Consumer and Online Protection (C4COP) has officially launched its campaign against a congressional ban of online gaming.
Led by former Congresswoman Mary Bono (R-CA) and Congressman Mike Oxley (R-OH) C4COP seeks to blunt billionaire Sheldon Adelson’s attempts for an outright ban on internet gaming. A national C4COP survey of 1000 interviews found that voters oppose “banning all online gaming nationwide” by a margin of 57% to 37%. Seventy-four percent of voters believe that “Each state should decide for itself whether to allow online gaming, and determine how to regulate online gaming in their state – a solid showing of support for states’ rights.
In addition to noting that a nationwide ban trumps states’ rights C4COP notes that three states already have online gaming regulations in place, other states are looking at the issue and several states have authorized online lottery sales (including MN).
