“These go to eleven”

Saturday brought the Free Poker Network’s (FPN) Twin Cities Regional tournament for Season 1 (April – June) of the HPT Dream Package promotion.  The top 12 players would advance to the MN State Championships in October.

Our own Karaoke Phil qualified for Regionals by virtue of a win during a weekly session in May.  It meant that he was able to take a seat Saturday with a single stack of 2000 chips. He’d be up against a field that included several double and triple stacks.

In all about 48 qualifiers showed up to the Sherwood Lounge in St. Paul one of 12 seats to the State Tournament.

Drinking a Moose Drool – Karaoke was able to hold about level through the first two levels – chipping up to 2075.

By the end of level 4 the tourney had seen about 9 players eliminated and Karaoke had moved up to 6000 chips.

Finishing level 6 meant only 17 players remained. Karaoke was largely able to fold his way into the top 12.  It is the 11th consecutive promotion (of 11 played) through the FPN where Karaoke Phil has qualified to play in the State Championships.

With the remaining players all going to the State Tourney there were only some smaller prizes and an Online National Qualifier left to play for.  Eight players decided to keep going.

After about 40 minutes of play Karaoke took it down – winning the Online Qualifier.  That will give Karaoke two shots to make it back to Vegas – the State Tourney and the Online Qualifier!
