Back in the Saddle

Okay, life and work took over there for a little while and we’ve really only been able to do/post the podcast.  Time to change that  – starting now.  We’re back in the saddle and our first post will be a quick recap of recent happenings over the last month:

First – congrats to friend of the CPL – Tom Stambaugh – for his 5th place finish at the Heartland Poker Tour event held last month at Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, MN.   Tom took home more than $9700 for his March 21 final table appearance.

Next, Canterbury Park (Shakopee, MN) has completely remodeled their card club – it’s now the “card room” and opened for business on April 17.  One very noticeable item are the chairs.  In what has to be a direct response to the competition from Running Aces, the chairs actually seem to be comfortable for long periods of repose.

Speaking of Running Aces – Event Two of the inaugural season concluded on April 11 with Joe Matheson besting the biggest field to date (183 players) to win more than $51K – all that from a $90 sit-n-go super satellite.  If you follow us on Twitter (cplpokerpodcast) you saw that our own Mark Cardenas played his CPL TOC winning ticket in the $250 satellite on April 9.   A good-sized field of around 125 players meant that the top 25 would advance to the main event – Mark busted out in 45th – and never had the chance to play at the same table as Everett Carlton (who went on to finish 5th in the Main Event).

Finally – look for another podcast posting soon (the show’s in post production).
